THE HAITI KIDS KINO PROJECT

Extending the reach of its film program, the Cube Cinema and its children's wing, Nanoplex, have set up a mobile, social cinema for children affected by the Haiti earthquakes - The HAITI KIDS KINO PROJECT (HKKP).
Haitian children are experiencing untold damage and despair. Further anxiety grows through inaction, loneliness and boredom. Sharing the experience of making and watching films, while offering temporary childcare facilities, HKKP is a goodwill project providing an opening for escape, community, emotion and social occasion.
In early 2010, two volunteers from The Cube Cinema left for Port Au Prince with a projector, screen and PA. In camps, hospitals, on the side of buildings and in carparks, HKKP screened feature films for children. We also provided workshops and equipment for them to make their own films to exchange with films made by children back in the UK.

We now planning our follow-up, hand-over visit for the end of 2010.
Four volunteers will go to work with communities in city and rural areas in Haiti, and progress HKKP so that it is sustainable and can be handed over to Haitian community groups.

This is a Big mission for a little Microplex.
HKKP requires your support to ensure our screenings. In one week we can project to audiences of 2,000 or more, in a month we're nearing 10,000. It costs us £500.00 per screening, in which we have up to 500 people at each screening. So, why not donate £500.00 for a screening, or £50.00 for fifty seats?
